The Dayton Art Institute acquired its first work in 1919: Harriet Frishmuth's sculpture Joy of the Waters. Since that time, the Art Institute has continually developed its Permanent Collection, which today includes more than twelve thousand objects ranging in date from 3,000 B. C. to the present. Considered one of the finest mid-size museum collections in the country, our encyclopedic Collection includes works of nearly every medium and major art historical period. This tour explores highlights of the Museum with Director and CEO Alexander Lee Nyerges, who reveals how some of our most important works became part of the Permanent Collection.
