The nicest thing over the illustration is to discover that the paint marks was actually put on first, and then the photo silkscreen was painted over. I don't think that it does any less for Russell Means than all of the various paintings of Jesus Christ by various artists. I think that it has to do with the medium. If you watch something on black and white television and then you watch it on color, you may have a different identity. This is very harmonious with the way we have started to think about Native Americans - but glorification. The screen image achieves a kind of significance. The activity of the black against those colors are about making an art form.
