Purple bar

This outdoor painting shows the surface of a lily pond, using subtle pastel tones of blue, white, pink, purple, green and yellow. The brushwork of this impressionist painting is imprecise, rendering elements within the scene with small blotches or strokes of paint. There is one lily pad in the lower left corner of the canvas, and several more forming a diagonal line from the center to the upper right. Each lily pad is a wide cluster of light green horizontal strokes, with brighter splotches of pink, yellow or white in the center representing flowers. The lily pads are floating on a body of water that modulates from blue and gray tones on the lower right side to lighter blue and pink on the left. Near the upper edge of the canvas, the water is darkened by green and purple hues. In the upper left corner of the painting, a lacy network of slender green leaves overhangs the water, partially screening some of the lilies.
