More than five-and-a-half feet high and four feet wide, this painting depicts the biblical scene in which Mary Magdalen approaches the resurrected Christ, who warns her to "touch me not." Standing in an outdoor setting, the two tall figures are dressed in brightly colored, silky garments. Mary wears a long coral pink skirt, a shiny green waistband, and a tight fitting golden bodice. A white cloth around her head conceals her hair. On the left side of the panel, Mary strides toward Jesus with her bare right foot protruding from beneath her skirt. Seen in profile, her mouth is open, her eyes wide and her arms flung outward. On the right side of the painting, Jesus turns partially away from Mary, extending his right arm toward her. He is dressed in a long pink robe covered by a pale green cloth. A faint halo glows around his head, and he has long reddish brown hair with a beard. He holds a wood and metal tool like a hoe over his left forearm. Both of his bare feet are seen beneath his robe, and there are barely visible marks on his hands and feet. Behind the couple is an outcrop of gray rock with some light vegetation. In the distance on the right edge of the painting are light brown hills and tall stone buildings under a stormy sky.
