William Morris (b. 1957) American RAVENS, 1998 Blown glass Each piece: Height 14 inches Width 14 inches Depth 7 inches Museum purchase with funds provided by the James F. Dicke Family, 1998.85 |
These glass sculptures depict two life-size ravens holding small bits of flesh in their raised beaks. Their legs taper to a point without feet, so the birds are supported by black metal mounts. The ravens have thick bodies made of opaque black glass with a slightly coarse texture. One bird has faint irregular blue lines on its back. Its head is turned slightly to the left and the flesh in its black beak is red and tan. The body of the other bird has a subtle red tint at its wing tips, tail and legs. Its head is turned slightly to the right and it has a golden translucent beak that grasps bits of orange and black flesh.
